Jean Prouvé’s Chaise Tout Bois was designed as an all wood rework of his metal-framed Standard chair in response to metal scarcity during WW2.

Part of what makes it a favorite of mine is all the variations that are out in the world (of which many appear on auction sites). From differing joinery and back rest shapes, to leg stretchers and arm rests, the Chaise Tout Bois seems more a family of designs than a singular model, and Jean Prouvé an unprecious designer, someone not afraid to tinker and evolve in his work.

With that in mind, this cousin features quarter-sawn white oak for the legs, a coopered seat, and drawbored joinery.
